Myspace Gives us an Album.

Filed under: Music, The Internet — mikey @ 6:05 pm

Last night Tom sent me some spam advertising the new myspace record. Included in the message was a track listing featuring bands that would only appeal to teenagers. Here’s the full message:

MySpace is putting out a record - and if you buy it, you can get more photos for your myspace page :)

This is something I’m really excited about. It’s not something I’ve mentioned much on my profile, but before MySpace I was in bands for most of my life. That’s where I came up with the idea for MySpace Music and having bands on the site. For most of this year, I’ve been working on putting a record label together — MySpace Records — and the first release, a compilation CD, is finally here.

The first record is a rock record and I picked the songs. I’m thinking about doing a screamo/hardcore and a hip hop/rap one next.

1. AFI - Rabbits Are Roadkill On Rt. 37
2. New Years Day - Ready, Aim, Misfire
3. Socratic - Lunch For The Sky
4. The Click Five - Angel To You (Devil To Me)
5. Say Anything - Every Man Has A Molly
6. Fall Out Boy - Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner (Acoustic)
7. Dashboard Confessional - Hands Down
8. Waking Ashland - I Am For You
9. Weezer - We Are All On Drugs
10. Hollywood Undead - No. 5
11. Against Me! - Don’t Lose Touch
12. Tila Tequila - Straight Up
13. The All-American Rejects - Stab My Back
14. The Summer Obsession - Melt The Sugar
15. Plain White T’s - Take Me Away
16. Copeland - Pin Your Wings
17. Jupiter Sunrise - Arthur Nix

I will write more about MySpace Records, what its about and where it’s going and where it came from soon. But I wanted to get the word out now, because the CD is in store everywhere in just a few more days!

I’m not gonna include links because you wouldn’t care.

Well this afternoon i woke up to find the record had just been released:

<xxxxxxxxxxx> [MP3] VA-MySpace_Records_Vol_1-2005-RNS was released 2h 19m 58s ago. [ 118.0Mb in 17F ]

Based on the fact that tom had spammed me about it, I figured it would be fair trade to download it. Skip ahead 15 minutes, I have it.

Track One, “Rabbits Are Roadkill On Rt. 37″ By AFI. A halfway decent song. Unfortunantly it followed the same trend as every other song produced by AFI; It carries absolutely no message. Ohh yeah, it sounds good. But there’s no real message. They just play their instruments so it sounds good, but the singer(s) just say a bunch of random phrases that carry no real meaning.

Track Two, “Ready, Aim, Misfire” by New Years Day. It was pretty much inevitable that they would throw a love song onto the record. This song does make sense, but it only caters to those idiot teenagers who believe they are in love any time they date somebody.

Track Three, “Lunch For The Sky” By Socratic. You can look at the name of the band and tell this song is going to suck. Socratic provides a pseudo-intellectual mix of love-laced lyrics, piano, and Grade A crap that only appeals to teenage attention whores.

Track Four, “Angel To You (Devil To Me)” By The Click Five . Ohh great, Another song where some pussy guy goes on and on about some girl who is presumebly known by everyone. This is what happens when boys are raised by single mothers. They are trained to pee sitting down, cry regularly, and simply subscribe to the pussy lifestyle.

Track Five, “Every Man Has A Molly” By Say Anything. Prior to this song, I actualy had a small shred of respect for Say Anything. Unfortunantly, this song just destroyed it. In this song, say anything bitches about some girl who broke up with the singer. Jesus christ people…

Six, “Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner” By Fall Out Boy. Just about every song this band has wrote is about a girl. I’m afraid I can’t listen to this band without having the urge to shove a pen through my hand.

Seven, “Hands Down” by Dashboard Confessional. More bitch-rock about women. I hate this generation.

Eight, “I am for you” By Walking Ashland. Is there such thing as originality these days? Yet another song about women. Fuckers!

Nine, “We are all on drugs” by weezer. Finally some decent music. Everyone’s heard this song, So i don’t think i’ll need to continue with the review of this song.

Ten, “No. 5″ by Holywood Undead. A RapRock mix about drinking and fucking. This band managed to incoporporate AIM message-recieve and message-send sounds. For some reason, a bunch of dirty words were cut out of the song. I could have sworn hearing a C-Bomb be cut out. Halfway decent song though.

Eleven, “Don’t lose Touch” by Against Me! . Some good rock music. They could have picked out a better song though.

Twelve, “Straight Up” by The Tequila. This is what against me should sound like. Unfortunantly, the song is ruined by a yelling twelve year old, with bleeped out curse words. I think it’d be funnier if they didn’t bleep anything. Decent music though.

Thirteen, “Stab My Back” by the all american rejects. A deep slope back down into the realm of depressing bitch-rock. Way to ruin a record, assholes.

Fourteen, “melt the sugar” by the summer obsession. Yet another bitch-rock song. I hate you people.

Fifteen, “Take me away” by the plain white t’s. Moooooooooore music about women. I think it’s safe to verify the death of originality.

Sixteen, “Pin Your Wings” by copeland. Some song that would only appeal to women where the singer compares whoever’s listening to the song to an angel. You pussies.

Finally, the last song. “Arthur Nix” by Jupiter Sunrise. I guess this song is about a guy named arthur nix who broke his leg after hitting a car while riding his bike. Then some people come help him. Although it’s pretty pathetic, it is a breath air from the rest of those songs about women.

And that’s the cd. If you like music about women, get it. Otherwise, just steal it from the internet.

Blue27 cracks me up.

Tonight I got bored, so I went onto WHT and started looking at the statements of people i hate. Naturally, I went for Resident Fuckwit Blue27.

I looked at a few of his posts, and saw that he was up to his usual rounds; being a condescending dick whose statements make you believe he’s older than Dennis. I quickly got bored with those statements, and then i took a peak down at his signature which he uses to advertise a couple of companies he runs. Those being Hampshire Hosting, and HampShire Graphics.

The first site i visited was HampShire Hosting. Upon visiting, I immediately tried finding a company forum. Unfortunantly, I couldn’t find one. I did find a contact form he uses for support issues which he aparently made with Microsoft Frontpage. Wanna see?

Newegg Troubles

Filed under: The Internet — mikey @ 4:15 am

Last sunday I ordered Beavis and Butt-Head - The Mike Judge Collection Volume 1 from newegg.

The item was listed as in-stock, and i was happy to be ordering it.

Then i waited around for a while, and checked back every day, but it was always listed as on step 3 - “Your credit/debit card has been successfully charged. Please note that you may no longer make changes to your order.”

Then on thursday it still hadn’t been shipped, So i called up newegg and spoke with a lady who verified all my info, and told me she would email the associated department and have it shipped as soon as she could.

Now it’s 3:12am saturday morning, and the order is still sitting on step 3. I’m hoping they’ll ship it out some time this weekend. If it’s still on step 3 come monday night, I’ll give them another call.

By the way, the record wasn’t listed for free shipping at the time i purchased it. I purchased it with the $3 UPS media mail option.

Customizing the squid forwarded_for value

Filed under: The Internet — mikey @ 3:55 am

Tonight, I got bored so I decided to look into hacking my squid to send a custom value with the forwarded_for header.

After searching around for a while, I found no guides. I had previously talked about this with some friends, and we discussed that squid sends back “unknown” if the user turns off forwarded_for in squid.conf . I wasn’t sure if this value was interpreted by the remote server, or squid. I made sure to rememember the idea for a later day.

Tonight, I downloaded squid squid 2.5 stable and see how easy it could be. Suprisingly, it wasn’t hard at all, and i was able to find it in less than 10 minutes.

If you open up your squid-2.5.STABLE12/src/http.c and scroll all the way down to line 962, there you will see:

/* append X-Forwarded-For */
strFwd = httpHeaderGetList(hdr_in, HDR_X_FORWARDED_FOR);
strListAdd(&strFwd,
(((orig_request->client_addr.s_addr != no_addr.s_addr) && opt_forwarded_for) ?
inet_ntoa(orig_request->client_addr) : "unknown"), ',');
httpHeaderPutStr(hdr_out, HDR_X_FORWARDED_FOR, strBuf(strFwd));
stringClean(&strFwd);

Pay close attention to

inet_ntoa(orig_request->client_addr) : "unknown"), ',');

Simply change the “unknown” value to whatever value you want. It can be 127.0.0.1, 0.0.0.0, 911.911.911.911, or even “banana”, you can insert whatever the hell you want into that section, and it will send that value with the x_forwarded_for header.

After changing the file, ./configure, make, and make install. You’ll need to edit your squid.conf and turn the “forwarded_for” value off in order for the hack to function.

How is this useful? By default, squid will send back your actual ip address if forwarded_for is not disabled. If it is disabled, it will send back “unknown”. There is no way to customize the header via squid.conf. So, this is an excellent solution. Some websites check the x_forwarded_for header, if you want to screw with the administrator, you can change that value to the actual website you’re visiting.

There isn’t a way to change the remote_addr value because that value is interpreted by the remote server.

Adam Corolla’s Last Loveline Episode on mp3

Today’s Trip

Filed under: The Daily RoundUp, The Internet, Weight Loss — mikey @ 1:41 am

Today was my second.. no, third day back out on the bike. Everything seemed to progress very quickly. I managed to get 10 miles in less than an hour on an empty stomach. The thing I hate about biking on friday nights is traffic is very busy, and I have to jaywalk at the same place twice.

There’s no way around it. I have to jaywalk. There is an intersection about 100 feet away, but the pedestrian traffic light doesn’t ever light up on that side.

Another thing I hate about these situations is polite drivers who feel like they need to stop and wave me ahead. This is usually appreciated, but when there is oncoming traffic coming from the other direction, it sends me into this paranoid state that the person who waved me ahead will be pissed off when I don’t just cross. Then I have to deal with the cars behind this person getting pissed off at me, thinking I am the one causing the holdup in traffic.

Maybe it’s just paranoia. Maybe everyone understands my plot, and I’m just over-reacting. I just wish people would excercise some empathy, and get out of the way so I can just cross the street with as little panic as possible. It’s not like i’m riding down the road in their car lanes like those other bikers.

Getting off topic for a second, have you guys listened to george clinton? I’m listening to his best of collection right now, and I think he’s just great. “A white man liking george clinton?” you say? Yeah.. I’ve been getting into the alternative music selections lately.

On another off topic note, I got my new video card today. It’s a geforce fx 5200. I fucked up, and overlooked the fx 5500 that costs $1 more. I tried contacting newegg after placing the order, but by the time they got to the email it was already shipped. Ohh well, at least i can play call of duty 2 now.

On yet another off topic note, I started talking with a girl from lake orion who i met on myspace. She is hot. She laughs a lot. That is all I have to say about that.

I guess i’ll just go with the flow, I still have half of a bottle of absolut apeach vodka sitting in my room. I should drink that some time soon.. Maybe i’ll go on a binge next weekend.

I’ve been getting more into boobs than ass. I’ve seen some fairly bad looking ass lately, and I’ve seen some awesome looking boobs. I guess i’ll re-evaluate my stance after i finish downloading this week’s update on bigtitsroundasses.com :)

And that’s all.

things bothering me.

I haven’t voiced my opinion at these things, but they’re been silently eating at my insides for a while.

1) The professional blogging movement bothers the hell out of me. Blogging should be a personal thing. If you own a little company, it seems reasonable to post about updates from around the office. Aside from that, I hate seeing big people from microsoft and google blog. The google blog is updated way too frequently with crap that nobody cares about. I’m sorry google, please don’t drop me back down to PR4, but it’s just boring.

2) The people who think website markup is a spiritual thing. It’s not.. It’s really not. While websites like that CSS Zen Garden are cool, I hate the comparison of spirituality, and code. Just shut up, continue coding in a valid manner, but stop comparing your code to lifestyles, the afterlife, etc.

3) Blue27… Anyone whose read his posts on wht knows what i’m talking about. That guy needs a fucking lobotomy. I may write a post about him like i did david a few weeks ago, I’ll start looking at german porn to try and get some inspiration.

That’s what i think. Have a nice day people.

back on the bike

Filed under: The Daily RoundUp, The Internet, Weight Loss — mikey @ 2:38 am

Today i went out for a bike ride. I’m not quite 100% healthy, but i’m up around 90% right now.

Everything was okay. I got away from one of my earlier habits of frequently looking down at the speedometer, and just rode as hard as I could.

After i got through oxford lakes, I had to stop because traffic wouldn’t let me into a section of the road i needed to get to. While i stood there I got really weirded out. It was like.. My head started hurting, and i got kind of dizzy, and I couldn’t seem to catch my breath no matter how many times i coughed. I drank a little water, and that stopped my breathing troubles, but i was still dizzy.

I managed to get back on the bike, and I rode for a while, after riding for about 5 minutes, my nose got stuffed up. I shot it out, but it was stuffed back up no more than 5 minutes later. I ventured on despite those problems.

Anyway, I continued through town, and through the rest of the route with a stuffy nose. My dizzyness went away, and was eventually replaced with some very blurry vision. I managed to get my 10 miles in. whoopidy doo.

Sony Attempts to Detour Rippers

Filed under: The Internet — mikey @ 6:52 pm

Sysinternals’ Mark Russinovich has performed an analysis of the copy restriction measures deployed by Sony Music on its latest CDs: which he bluntly calls a ‘root kit’. Using conventional tools to remove Sony’s digital media malware will leave ordinary users with Windows systems unable to play CDs.

While the Sony CDs play fine on Red Book audio devices such as standard consumer electronics CD players, when they’re played on a Windows PC the software forces playback through a bundled media player, and restricts how many digital copies can be made from Windows.
Click Here

A ‘root kit’ generally refers to the nefarious malware used by hackers to gain control of a system. A root kit has several characteristics: it finds its way onto systems uninvited; endeavors to remain undetected; and then may either intercept system library routines and reroute them to its own routines, or replace system executables with its own, or both - all with the intention of gaining system level ownership of the computer.

What makes Sony’s CD digital media software particularly nasty is that using expert tools for removing the parasite risks leaving you with a Windows PC that’s useless, and that requires a full reformat and reinstall.

So is Sony bundling a root kit, or is it the latest in a long line of clumsy, and sometimes laughably inept attempts to thwart the playback of digital media on PCs?

We were inclined to the latter - but in practical terms, for ordinary users, the consequences are so serious that semantic distinctions are secondary.

In actuality both, reckons Russinovich. It’s a ‘root kit’ that arrived uninvited, but it’s also “underhanded and sloppy software” , that once removed, prevented Windows from playing his CD again (Van Zant’s ‘Get With The Man’) he notes in his analysis.

The Sony CD creates a hidden directory and installs several of its own device drivers, and then reroutes Windows systems calls to its own routines. It intercepts kernel-level APIs, but then attempts to disguise its presence, using a crude cloaking technique.

Disingenuously, the copy restriction binaries were labelled “Essential System Tools”.

But the most disturbing part of the tale came when Russinovich ran his standard rootkit-removal tool on the post-Sony PC.

“Users that stumble across the cloaked files with a RKR scan will cripple their computer if they attempt the obvious step of deleting the cloaked files,” he writes.

Which puts it in an entirely different class of software to the copy restriction measures we’ve seen so far, which can be disabled by a Post-It note. Until specialist tools arrive to disinfect PCs of this particular measure. ®

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/11/01/sony_rootkit_drm/

What a bunch of fucking retards. Do they actually think these measures are going to stop rippers? Do they think rippers are just a bunch of kids who don’t know their way around electronics? Hell, they managed to keep sony and other record companies out of their space, what makes them think they are going to be able to break into their systems that easily? Do they think the only way to copy data from an audio cd to a computer is via a standard ripping application? Have they ever considered the fact that a ripper can simply put a cd into their cd player, and connect the device to their computer via the line-in slot on their sound card?

How about the fucking fact that that if an average home user attempts to get around their software, it will completely fuck over their computers? Brilliant move there. Can you say Class-Action Lawsuit? I’m tempted to buy a cd with this ‘protection’ just so I can cash in on their mistakes. Hell, they’ll probably lose more money in court than they usually lose as a result of people downloading albums.

It’s fucking amazing how desperate these companies are getting. What’s next, Is the MPAA going to stick armed security guards in theaters to keep telecine rippers out? Fucking hilarious.
