die toten hosen

Filed under: Music, The Internet — mikey @ 8:18 pm

Many years ago, I bought a 1998 warped tour documentary. The documentary covered the whole tour, from the US leg, to the EU leg. In the EU part of the documentary, they talked about a german band called Die Toten Hosen. Aparently this band has a huge following out in europe, and they’ve been selling out these huge venues for a while now.

Well, the last night i saw a mini-album called “Weihnachtsmann vom Dach” be released by a band called “Die Roten Rosen”, and instantly remembered die toten hosen. So, i asked about it on irc, and research lead us to a bunch of websites showing a connection between this band, and die toten hosen. I’m thinking die roten rosen is just a pseudonym for die toten hosen.

Well, the conversation on irc sparked all this activity, and now a whole bunch of us are listening to die toten hosen. I just grabbed their 1991 album “Kauf Mich”, and their 1999 album “crash landing” is on the way.

This band is great. I haven’t listened to much german punk in my life, but this band just rocks.

walk the line

Filed under: General, Music — mikey @ 2:04 am

Tonight, i went to the movies to see that johnny cash movie “walk the line”.

Pardon me, i am near the halfway mark of this fifth of pineapple parrot bay rum. It’s much better than the coconut rum.

Well, the movie was pretty good. There were some hot ladies in it. And the parts where johnny is all binged out on pills and liquor are damn funny. They weren’t meant to be funny or anything, but it was still very funny.

I think you should see this movie if you find drug abuse funny.

It wasn’t all funny. But there’s this moment when he stumbles out on stage unexpectedly, gets really violent with his band-mates, kicks the microphone into the crowd, kicks out some lights, and then passes out. That was all just hilarious.

The movie is also great if you are a fan of music. Johnny plays some good tunes in venues all across the place, and even a prison. The prison performance was the last one, and it was very entertaining.

One thing that bugged me about the movie, was in between scenes in different places, they would show the place, and the year. I’m not sure if this was done on purpose, or just a bug with the theater. But they would show it on either the right, or the left side of the screen, and each time they showed it, a bunch of letters were cut off. I’m not sure why they would do it, I would have liked to know where these things were happening, and when.

Well that’s all from me. I’m feelin’ pass-out worthy.

Myspace Gives us an Album.

Filed under: Music, The Internet — mikey @ 6:05 pm

Last night Tom sent me some spam advertising the new myspace record. Included in the message was a track listing featuring bands that would only appeal to teenagers. Here’s the full message:

MySpace is putting out a record - and if you buy it, you can get more photos for your myspace page :)

This is something I’m really excited about. It’s not something I’ve mentioned much on my profile, but before MySpace I was in bands for most of my life. That’s where I came up with the idea for MySpace Music and having bands on the site. For most of this year, I’ve been working on putting a record label together — MySpace Records — and the first release, a compilation CD, is finally here.

The first record is a rock record and I picked the songs. I’m thinking about doing a screamo/hardcore and a hip hop/rap one next.

1. AFI - Rabbits Are Roadkill On Rt. 37
2. New Years Day - Ready, Aim, Misfire
3. Socratic - Lunch For The Sky
4. The Click Five - Angel To You (Devil To Me)
5. Say Anything - Every Man Has A Molly
6. Fall Out Boy - Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner (Acoustic)
7. Dashboard Confessional - Hands Down
8. Waking Ashland - I Am For You
9. Weezer - We Are All On Drugs
10. Hollywood Undead - No. 5
11. Against Me! - Don’t Lose Touch
12. Tila Tequila - Straight Up
13. The All-American Rejects - Stab My Back
14. The Summer Obsession - Melt The Sugar
15. Plain White T’s - Take Me Away
16. Copeland - Pin Your Wings
17. Jupiter Sunrise - Arthur Nix

Please show your support for MySpace and for these bands by visiting and adding the profile to your friends list!

I will write more about MySpace Records, what its about and where it’s going and where it came from soon. But I wanted to get the word out now, because the CD is in store everywhere in just a few more days!

I’m not gonna include links because you wouldn’t care.

Well this afternoon i woke up to find the record had just been released:

<xxxxxxxxxxx> [MP3] VA-MySpace_Records_Vol_1-2005-RNS was released 2h 19m 58s ago. [ 118.0Mb in 17F ]

Based on the fact that tom had spammed me about it, I figured it would be fair trade to download it. Skip ahead 15 minutes, I have it.

Track One, “Rabbits Are Roadkill On Rt. 37″ By AFI. A halfway decent song. Unfortunantly it followed the same trend as every other song produced by AFI; It carries absolutely no message. Ohh yeah, it sounds good. But there’s no real message. They just play their instruments so it sounds good, but the singer(s) just say a bunch of random phrases that carry no real meaning.

Track Two, “Ready, Aim, Misfire” by New Years Day. It was pretty much inevitable that they would throw a love song onto the record. This song does make sense, but it only caters to those idiot teenagers who believe they are in love any time they date somebody.

Track Three, “Lunch For The Sky” By Socratic. You can look at the name of the band and tell this song is going to suck. Socratic provides a pseudo-intellectual mix of love-laced lyrics, piano, and Grade A crap that only appeals to teenage attention whores.

Track Four, “Angel To You (Devil To Me)” By The Click Five . Ohh great, Another song where some pussy guy goes on and on about some girl who is presumebly known by everyone. This is what happens when boys are raised by single mothers. They are trained to pee sitting down, cry regularly, and simply subscribe to the pussy lifestyle.

Track Five, “Every Man Has A Molly” By Say Anything. Prior to this song, I actualy had a small shred of respect for Say Anything. Unfortunantly, this song just destroyed it. In this song, say anything bitches about some girl who broke up with the singer. Jesus christ people…

Six, “Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner” By Fall Out Boy. Just about every song this band has wrote is about a girl. I’m afraid I can’t listen to this band without having the urge to shove a pen through my hand.

Seven, “Hands Down” by Dashboard Confessional. More bitch-rock about women. I hate this generation.

Eight, “I am for you” By Walking Ashland. Is there such thing as originality these days? Yet another song about women. Fuckers!

Nine, “We are all on drugs” by weezer. Finally some decent music. Everyone’s heard this song, So i don’t think i’ll need to continue with the review of this song.

Ten, “No. 5″ by Holywood Undead. A RapRock mix about drinking and fucking. This band managed to incoporporate AIM message-recieve and message-send sounds. For some reason, a bunch of dirty words were cut out of the song. I could have sworn hearing a C-Bomb be cut out. Halfway decent song though.

Eleven, “Don’t lose Touch” by Against Me! . Some good rock music. They could have picked out a better song though.

Twelve, “Straight Up” by The Tequila. This is what against me should sound like. Unfortunantly, the song is ruined by a yelling twelve year old, with bleeped out curse words. I think it’d be funnier if they didn’t bleep anything. Decent music though.

Thirteen, “Stab My Back” by the all american rejects. A deep slope back down into the realm of depressing bitch-rock. Way to ruin a record, assholes.

Fourteen, “melt the sugar” by the summer obsession. Yet another bitch-rock song. I hate you people.

Fifteen, “Take me away” by the plain white t’s. Moooooooooore music about women. I think it’s safe to verify the death of originality.

Sixteen, “Pin Your Wings” by copeland. Some song that would only appeal to women where the singer compares whoever’s listening to the song to an angel. You pussies.

Finally, the last song. “Arthur Nix” by Jupiter Sunrise. I guess this song is about a guy named arthur nix who broke his leg after hitting a car while riding his bike. Then some people come help him. Although it’s pretty pathetic, it is a breath air from the rest of those songs about women.

And that’s the cd. If you like music about women, get it. Otherwise, just steal it from the internet.

Hey,

Today was an interesting day. I didn’t sleep last night, and hooked up my dsl really quick. But when i went to set it all up, it wasn’t accepting the connection. Why? because my dsl hadn’t been activated yet.

So, i went to bed, and assumed it would work when i woke up.

Then i woke up, and it wasn’t working. So, i called up SBC and they said it hadn’t been activated yet. I said koay, and waited around for a while.

Then while looking at the setup, i realized i hadn’t plugged my phone line into the modem, i had actually plugged the phone into the wall.

After laughing alot, i plugged it in, and it works.

Then i did a bunch of stuff on here, and went out on the bike around 6:00pm.

On the bike, i rode from my house, through oxford lakes, through town, back and took the same way back home. I decided to ride a part of oxford lakes i hadn’t rode since i was a little kid, and that turned out to be a bad idea. It was on that road that my rear tire got punctured, and i lost all air.

So, i walked all the way back home. Thankfully, i was only about 20 minutes walking distance from home.

Getting home, i was 1 mile short of 10 miles, and I’ve gotta figure out what i’m gonna do to get my bike repaired.

In addition to the wheel being flat, it also needs to be trued. My left rear break pad isn’t touching the wheel at all when i go to stop. Maybe the dad’s team sponsor / bike shop can help me out.

I’ve downloaded alot of porn and music tonight. I also bought a 1 month subscription at di.fm . I’m pretty happy with it so far.

That’s all for today, see you later.

Pink Floyd

Filed under: Music — mikey @ 1:54 am

Back a few years ago, i couldn’t stand being woken up to the sound of my dad blaring their “pulse” cd through the stereo.

And, i guess i avoided the music. it just didn’t appeal to me at the time.

Then one day many months ago, i went on a cd ripping frenzy, during my quest to have a 200 hour playlist. During that session, i ripped a bunch of my dad’s cds. In that set, was the same “pulse” album that had bothered me so much before.

Well, the album sat on my playlist for a very long time, and one day i decided to actually listen to it.

During that time, i had previously taken 3 excedrin migrain. I didn’t need to, but i feel life is more enjoyable when you’re slightly over-medicated.

While listening, i felt very very good. It kinda felt like a religious experience.

Since that time, I’ve been addicted to this album. My dad likes the cd too. My mom dislikes pink floyd. She actually bitched at the dad when he sat down to watch pink floyd’s live8 performance.

I got to see footage of them performing at that live8 festival. It’s cool to see that a band that old can still play such great music.

I’ve seen commercials for another new live album. I’m thinking about buying the dad a copy.

I should look into finding a pink floyd dvd. There’s probably one out there.

That’s all, Have a nice day.

The Oxford Blues and BBQ Festival

Filed under: Music — mikey @ 1:17 am

Tonight, i was lying in bed, pretty much hungover from the past days boozing.

Well, i was channel surfing, and i came across channel 19 (oxfordvision), and this guy was talking about a blues festival taking place in this town.

So, i listened on, and he went on to tell us about how it’s gonna be happening on the 25th, and it’s gonna be from 10:00AM until 10:00PM, and it will cost $10 to get in, and there will also be BBQ food.

he didn’t say if the food would be for free.

so, i’m gonna take some of the $350 i put in the bank, and use $20 for this 10 hour festival.

I’ll probably take some pictures.

Of course, it’s 6 days away, but i think it should make for a good day out in the sun.

hi everybody.

Doing good, went to bed at 6:00AM, woke up at 4:00PM.

downloaded “cake - prolonging the magic” last night, it’s good stuff.

had fish for dinner.

did some work for hellsfury, check it out at http://hellsfury.com/forums/dl/ . It’s still being developed, but eventually - it’ll be a good feature.

Watched dogma on CBC tonight, the great thing about cbc is that a majority of their broadcasts are uncensored.

Tonight, my computer’s heatsink started going really reallly loudly, i have no idea why it started, but it was fixed with a reboot. no errors were reported in the event log either.

That’s about it from my corner of the internet, laterios.

hi.

good day. woke up at 4PM, had roast for dinner.

looked at a job offer that i could probably fill, the only problem is that it’s out in california. Read about it here - http://www.dreamhost.com/jobs.html

nothing really happend today..

i coded a simple 3 column css/divs layout for fitzy… if you want it, you can reply to this entry.

did a little work on a script for hellsfury.com

Fixed up some minor bugs on www.boardhelp.com . I still need to finish the new skin.

Downloaded “modest mouse - Building Nothing Out Of Something” last night… i gave them a second chance in downloading this, i regret downloading it.

modest mouse sucks.. their videos are alot better than their music.

That’s about it for today, laterios.

Hi.

Today was a mixed blessing.

For most of the day, i was really annoyed. Bill collectors kept calling while i was working on a project for this guy, and during the prime time hours me and the mom got in a big argument. I ended up winning the argument, but she’s still a little pissed off at me.

I did a shit load of xhtml validation work for this guy’s website. Let me just take this time to mention how much i HATE movabletype. That script is so shitty.. a coke head could have done a better job with it. Regardless, i’ll be $17 richer as soon as he pays me.

I decided against using IPB for boardhelp.com, and i’m going to buy a leased vbulletin license as soon as i have $15 more in my paypal account. If you would like to donate to my cause, send payment to mike \aaaaattttt\ oxiserve dot com .

I just got a PM from jeremy johnstone on webhostingtalk.com . He wanted me to add his blog to the list of “blogs of note” on this site, i guess i’ll do that after this entry is made.

I haven’t downloaded any music in a while, i think i’ll get something in the next week or so. It’s been kind of tough lately, because the guy who owns the machine i do all my downloading on has been mirroring his 100GB collection of music from his work machine, to his home machine. I have an account on his router, so i am forced to suffer the effects.

Being staff at hellsfury.com is fun. So far, i’ve been having a good time with it.

I hope this guy pays me for the xhtml validation. I can’t wait to get my copy of vB.

Have i mentioned that i hate valentine’s day? Read This Article to find out why.

I got my camera back from olympus today, and i got my “designing with web standards” book. the camera came via UPS, and the book came in the mail. I’m going to start reading the book tomorrow. I’ll probably start using my camera again during the spring and summer seasons.

That’s about it from my corner of the internet, laterios.
